Perkumpulan Desa Mandiri atau disingkat PUNDEN adalah perkumpulan yang bertujuan untuk mendorong prakarsa rakyat dalam mengelola sumber daya ekonomi, politik, dan sosial budaya di komunitas melalui pengorganisasian dan advokasi kebijakan.

PUNDEN is a non-governmental organization (NGO) in Nganjuk which was established as a response to unjust situation and there has been no organization/group trying to make any changes around Nganjuk Indonesia. This organization is a non-profit oriented and independent organization. Punden was established in Nganjuk by various woman activists, farmers and ex-student movements on April 22 2004 coinciding with the whole World Earth Day and a day after Kartini day. As an association, to make the villages independent, PUNDEN has tried to make any changes by building capacity of institution, strengthening capacity of organization, institution, and community and conducting advocacy over policies that have not sided with the people.

PUNDEN is committed to promoting for human rights in the villages toward community independence and sovereignty, since big independency should start from independency of small things and come from small community. It is expected that the independency and sovereignty of the village communities will grow and spread effectively. This state was established by communities, so that the communities should be positioned as the actors of changes to determine their sovereignty and independency.

Since Punden believes that community is an important part of social changes, independency and sovereignty with their critical involvement and their great participation. Community has equal rights and chances to manage their own resources. And PUNDEN is an initiator of community’s independency and sovereignty through its programs. To achieve this goal, Punden should be a strong organization to reach the independency by conducting concrete works in communities. Therefore, Punden develops institutional strengths both in the internal organization and in communities. Thus, the people’s independency can be built through networking struggle among the communities in these villages.
